4D Technology (Tucson, Arizona; an Onto Innovation subsidiary) makes vibration-insensitive interferometry instruments with NASA/JWST heritage, used for flight-line surface inspection in aerospace.

4D Technology, based in Tucson, Arizona, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Onto Innovation and builds optical metrology and industrial measurement instruments. Its optical line covers AccuFiz Fizeau and PhaseCam Twyman-Green interferometers and surface profilers, including vibration insensitive designs with NASA and JWST heritage. For aviation the relevant products are the handheld 4D InSpec and 4D InSpec XL surface gauges, which make non-contact 3D measurements of surface features and defects in the shop, on the flight line and on the aircraft without disassembly. Documented aerospace applications include rivet qualification, corrosion depth measurement in confined areas, scratch and dent assessment, and automated edge break inspection on aerospace engine parts. Sales run through distributors and representatives across Asia Pacific, Europe, the Middle East and the Americas, with remaining regions served directly from Tucson.
