Predictive Maintenance (PdM) is a proactive maintenance strategy that involves monitoring the condition of equipment and using data analysis, advanced algorithms, and sometimes machine learning to predict when a component or system is likely to fail. The goal is to perform maintenance at the optimal time, preventing unexpected equipment breakdowns, reducing downtime, and minimizing maintenance costs.
Compared to preventive maintenance (performed at regular intervals) and reactive maintenance (done after a failure occurs), predictive maintenance focuses on maintaining equipment only when necessary, based on its actual condition.
